I recently created a cute fall sign using my Grateful Thankful Blessed Stacked Pumpkins SVG. I cut the file out using my X-tool D1 machine, and made an attempt at using a dremel rotary tool to shape the outer edges of my pumpkins. I’ve never used the rotary tool before, but have seen other woodworkers use them on their projects, and I thought it gave their work so much more dimension and interest.
The wood I used was 1/8th inch pine, so it was pretty thin, not giving me a whole lot to work with. I also wasn’t really sure which sanding tip I should use, so I just picked one and gave it a go. I have to also say that the sanding tips in my husband’s kit looked pretty worn out, so I wasn’t overly impressed with my finished product. And, I realized later that for some reason I only cut my top pumpkin out using all 3 separate pieces, and cut the two bottom pumpkins out using the solid background SVG. So looking at the photo, I do like the top pumpkin with the sanded edges more than the bottom two. I had to paint my bottom two pumpkins to give them their pumpkin look, and let’s just say my painting skills could use a lot of work!
To mount my stacked pumpkins, I had an old Halloween sign in my stash from the Dollar Tree, so I put some brown packing paper over the front of the Halloween sign, since it was full of glitter and I didn’t feel like sanding it all off. I just slapped on a bunch of mod podge and adhered the paper to it, then I painted the back of the Halloween sign white for sticking my pumpkins to. I also had some wood garden stakes from the dollar store that I cut to size, painted brown, and glued around the outer edge to frame it.
I love the colors I chose for my pumpkins, and if I make this sign again, I’ll definitely the pumpkin files that will cut my pumpkins out into three separate pieces like my little top one.
I have a full tutorial on YouTube of how I put this sign together that you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMKMZIPcu44&t=21s
